San Marino is the World’s oldest Republic
The history of San Marino is connected with medieval, renaissance and modern history of Southern Europe, starting by independence from the Roman Empire. Like Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco and the Vatican, it is one of the only surviving medieval city-states of European Region. The country, whose independence has ancient origins, is considered to be the world's oldest republic. According to legend, San Marino was founded in 301 AD.
San Marino's economy relies heavily on tourism, the banking industry and the manufacture and export of ceramics, clothing, fabrics, furniture, paints, spirits, tiles, and wine. The manufacturing and financial sectors account for more than half of San Marino's GDP. The per capita level of output and standard of living are comparable to those of the most prosperous regions of the world, ranking top 10 according to UN, World Bank and International Monetary Fund and top 1 economy of Southern Europe Region for GDP per capita.
I had the chance to discuss new opportunities with Matteo Ciacci, the world’s youngest head of state and San Marino Captain Regent.
