Coronelli’s Terrestrial and Celestial Globes

After traveling the world, I wanted to admire Coronelli’s Terrestrial and Celestial Globes. Vincenzo Coronelli, born in Venice in 1650, was the most important Italian cartographer and designed some of the most famous globes of the world. Coronelli founded the very first geographical society, the Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti and was invited to Paris to make a pair of globes for King Louis XIV. Coronelli's original globes can be seen at Francois Mitterand National Library in Paris, Biblioteca Marciana in Venice, and Angelo Mai Library in Bergamo Alta (pictured here). Knowing the world was necessary for political leaders and business people during the 17th century; today much more.
