In the Caribbean

In the Caribbean, traveling from Antigua and Barbuda to St Kitts and Nevis. America has decreased its interest in this region, that is often called US "third border". To date several countries in the Caribbean have joined Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative, including Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Guyana, Grenada, Barbados and Jamaica. Caribbean region has fewer natural resources than rest of Latin America and represents a tiny market for China but has a geopolitical meaning related to borders, seas, and number of United Nations members that were closer to Washington before and now change to Beijing. Even the Chinese military is already in the Caribbean, in Cuba. According to US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, China maintains physical presences at Lourdes, Bejucal, and Santiago de Cuba. Although US remains the Caribbean’s largest trading partner, China has quickly expanded its economic presence in the region. While there is a China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, relations primarily take place bilaterally, with an expanding network of technical agreements. US has a tax treaty with Barbados and Jamaica while China has tax agreements with Cuba, Barbados and Jamaica.
